  1. Ya know, this is kind of the topic of my latest post “evolutionary contradiction”. I’m arguing from the atheist perspective that there is no free will. And an atheist is arguing that there is. Basically, we are all material processes and organs. Materials do not choose or have moral obligations.

The existence of free will is grounded in the immaterial soul. As long as atheists deny the immaterial soul, they have no basis for free will.

You say this but what can it possibly mean?

As long as atheists deny the immaterial soul, they have no basis for free will.

The basis you say is lacking for atheists is equally lacking for theists unless you are proposing that belief alone makes something true. That’s exactly backwards, Daniel, and a clear indication of why religion poisons everything: what’s true in fact is relegated to what is simply believed to be true. You actually think you start with all the right answers!

Regarding the video, only an idiot would think that behaviour is exempt from the influences of biology. Of course biology plays a role but how deterministic a role does it play and how can we find this out? By believing in faeries?

No. We just follow where it logically leads, even if it leads to immaterial things. You acknowledge the limits of human understanding but you aren’t willing to speculate beyond it if it leads to anything immaterial. So here you are, blind to the cause of the universe and blind to the immaterial part of you, and having no basis for free will or morality. Gaining understanding of these things is very simple. All you have to do is look at the material world and ask “Who is God”.

Of course biology plays a role in behavior. The brain affects the mind. But, without the mind affecting the brain, no free will can occur. The mind is immaterial. The ability to choose comes from the immaterial. If you say that the mind and the brain are the same, you have no basis for free will, choice is an illusion and “self” is an illusion. You fall victim to the random evolutionary variations on behavior from mindless random processes. There is no personality, just random predetermined variations in behavior that you think is your “self”. Why are there variations in what seems to be people’s choices? Because of random biological and chemical differences, and variations in the environment. We’re just reacting… behaving… causing… affecting… we are part of the mechanism of the universe. There is no hope for the future, just what will be.

You think religion poisons everything. Yet, how do you know what is good except from your own subjective viewpoint. What is your measuring stick? You cannot realistically determine that religion “ought” to disappear. You were just meant to feel that way through mindless evolutionary process. Asking the question “are you right to feel that way” is pointless.

You can speculate about faeries all you want, but it’s not going to affect anything. Try speculating about something that matters.
